The Royal Roads University library is continually seeking out online resources for alumni use. For more information, please see Library FAQs.
Due to licensing agreements with the databases vendors, we are only able to provide access to current students. As such, alumni will no longer have access to the online databases once their learner computer account expires. We have sought - and will continue to seek - ways to provide alumni access, but at present the cost does not make this service viable. Alumni who live near Royal Roads University or any other academic library can use licensed resources on a walk-in basis.
Note: public libraries are beginning to license similar resources for onsite and remote access by their users. For example, if you are a member of the Greater Victoria Public Library, you can access several databases online such as Access Science, CBCA and Canadian News Stand and EBSCOHOST.
The Alumni Branch Network is essentially the umbrella under which alumni interact with each other (in-person and/or online) as well as within their communities. Alumni may use their local branch as a source of career, social, and learning opportunities.
Homecoming is an alumni weekend that takes place the second week of September. We invite all students, alumni, staff and faculty of Royal Roads University and Royal Roads Naval and Military Colleges to come back to campus for an exciting weekend of activities including a reception hosted by President Allan Cahoon, gala dinner, professional development opportunities and events unique only to Royal Roads like a free military sail and lunch sponsored by the Maritime Forces Pacific! Friends and family members are welcome, and Homecoming is the perfect time to get together for a reunion with your class and cohort members.
Mark your calendars – Homecoming 2011 takes place September 9 -11.
Check the Homecoming page for further information.
We stay connected with our alumni through e-mail, so be sure we have your updated e-mail address and geographic location so you can receive invitations for networking or professional development opportunities in your community. As well, check out our new alumni calendar of events.
Royal Roads University has a strong presence on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. As well as the university managed groups, there are other groups created and managed by alumni members. Many cohorts and classes have created groups, and if you don’t see who or what you’re looking for, we encourage you to start a group of your own!
AlumNet was an online social networking site created exclusively for Royal Roads alumni. AlumNet has been discontinued and is no longer functional, however there are many other online opportunities to stay connected to the Royal Roads community (see answer #4).
After providing the Email for Life forwarding service for almost a decade combined with the changing face of the Internet and electronic communications has prompted the retirement of this service in favour of a more interactive alumni website, and opportunities to connect to other members of the Royal Roads community on social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
We will be maintaining the Email for Life service for students and alumni enrolled in intakes before June 15, 2007 who wish to use it. This service will not be available to those enrolled in intakes after June 15, 2007. If you were enrolled in intakes before June 15, 2007 and you wish to make changes to your Email for Life account, please contact the Royal Roads University Help Desk .
Your student computer account will normally expire two weeks after convocation. Two weeks before expiration, you should start to receive electronic notices informing you of the scheduled account expiry.
What happens to my RRU student computer account when I graduate? Your student computer account will eventually expire. Once this happens, you will no longer be able to access:
- Your personal files in your student drives
- Your workgroup files in your shared drives
- Your @community.royalroads e-mail account (see #3)
